How Does Dry Needling Work?
Dry needling, AKA intramuscular stimulation (IMS), is a specialized treatment method that
can help alleviate pain and improve movement issues related to myofascial trigger points. By
inserting sterile thin needles into or around the affected area that is limiting your movement or
causing pain, healthcare providers can stimulate the muscles to contract or twitch, providing
significant pain relief. This technique is a safe and effective way to enhance your range of
motion, allowing you to regain control of your body and improve your overall quality of life.
Depending on the type of pain being treated/addressed, the needles may be inserted either
superficially or deeply. The duration of needle insertion varies and depends on the degree of
pain relief needed. For minor/simple relief, needles may only be inserted for a few seconds,
while for more intense/deeper pain, they may be kept inserted for up to 10 to 15 minutes.
